Ching Dynasty Coins
The authentic Chinese coins used in Rare Bird jewelry are imported from Indonesia. They come from the Ching, (or Qing), Dynasty which stretched from 1644 AD to 1910 AD. Most of the coins are from the 1700’s. Local Chinese communities in Indonesia imported these coins for use since the Ming dynasty. In some outlying areas they are still used today for currency.
The coins are worn by time, and sometimes have sediment varnishes as most are recovered from fields, construction sites, and the sea.

Ancient Roman Glass
The exquisite aqua glass in this jewelry is 1,000 plus years old, and comes from Afghanistan. These pieces are fragment of vessels, such as olive jars, which were transported along the Silk Road. Buried for centuries, the ancient glass has been textured and patined by extremes of heat and wind. The patinas have changed the surface of the original glass, scattering light in iridescent shimmers.
These precious shards hold the mysteries of the ancient past, and bring a blessing of beauty to a country rife with struggles in our modern world.
